Gorgious Covers

This post keeps getting bumped because of Book Tours, not a bad thing. I guess I'll just have to start posting on Saturdays.

Reboot (Reboot #1)
by Amy Tintera
Publication date: May 7, 2013
YA dystopia, science fiction

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

My Thoughts:
This cover instantly reminds me of a Michael Crichton novel (Next) because of the bar-code. I love the idea. Obviously the numbers 1, 7 and 8 are important to the novel. The font is a little unexpected for the thrilling effect the black and red straight lines represent. I would have expected something with harder edges, less rounded. I cheated and read the blurb a little, because I had no idea other than this had to have something to do with technology (hint the bar-code). I love the "Republic of Texas" idea. It's no far stretch that the crazy's in my home state wish to secede, and it's an interesting idea to take to Dystopia. Sound's exciting.

A Darkness Strange and Lovely (Something Strange and Deadly #2)
by Susan Dennard
Publication date: July 23, 2013
YA Dystopia (Zombies)

Following an all-out battle with the walking Dead, the Spirit Hunters have fled Philadelphia, leaving Eleanor alone to cope with the devastating aftermath. But there’s more trouble ahead—the evil necromancer Marcus has returned, and his diabolical advances have Eleanor escaping to Paris to seek the help of Joseph, Jie, and the infuriatingly handsome Daniel once again. When she arrives, however, she finds a whole new darkness lurking in this City of Light. As harrowing events unfold, Eleanor is forced to make a deadly decision that will mean life or death for everyone.

My Thoughts:
This cover is instantly haunting. The mesh Madonna glove gives this cover an extra sense of ominous gloom or poverty. There's something about women is big flouncy dresses that really catches my eye. Maybe it's because I don't see too many women dressed up like that. I defiantly don't get Zombie from this cover though, and I don't understand the window behind. Never the less, this cover really caught my eye. I would have put in a request for it, if not for the fact that it's not #1 in the series. I try to stay away from jumping into the middle of a novel. I think, to make this cover better, there should be a creepy human silhouette in the window behind the girl. I can't even begin to guess what it's about though, just looking at the cover.

Naturals (The Lost Souls #2)
by Tiffany Truitt
Publication date: April 2nd, 2013
YA Science Fiction

Tess is finally safe from the reach of the Council, now that she is living in the Middlelands with the rebel Isolationists. With James having returned to Templeton, she easily falls back into her friendship with Henry, though her newfound knowledge of Robert’s chosen one status still stings. Even surrounded by people, Tess has never felt more alone. So she’s thrilled when James returns to the settlement, demanding to see Tess — until she finds out that it’s because her sister, Louisa, has been recruited into Tess’s old position at Templeton, and that the dangerously sadistic chosen one George has taken an interest in her.

My Thoughts:
I am drawn to the red immediately. So bright and vibrant. There's something so serene to this cover. Maybe it's because her eyes are shut? It shouldn't look so comfortable though. I wan to lay down with this girl even though the hard cracked earth beneath her shouldn't be comfy. The font reminds me of the Dyslexic font, lettering designed so each letter looks different... supposedly easier for dyslexics to read, less of a chance of them thinking that "a" looks like an "e." I really don't have much of a guess about this book based on the cover. The designer utilized the rule of thirds very well. The cover is broken out into thirds. 1/3 = cracked earth, 1/3 = red hair, 1/3 = fair skin. Speaking of, she's going to fricassee in that blistering sun I imagine is above her.

Some Quiet Place
by Kelsey Sutton
Publication date: July 8th, 2013
YA Fantasy

Elizabeth Caldwell doesn’t feel emotions . . . she sees them. Longing, Shame, and Courage materialize around her classmates. Fury and Resentment appear in her dysfunctional home. They’ve all given up on Elizabeth because she doesn’t succumb to their touch. All, that is, save one—Fear. He’s intrigued by her, as desperate to understand the accident that changed Elizabeth’s life as she is herself.

Elizabeth and Fear both sense that the key to her past is hidden in the dream paintings she hides in the family barn. But a shadowy menace has begun to stalk her, and try as she might, Elizabeth can barely avoid the brutality of her life long enough to uncover the truth about herself. When it matters most, will she be able to rely on Fear to save her?

My Thoughts:
This hauntingly stunning cover keeps calling to me. I first saw in on NetGalley. Instantly, I poked around inside to see if it was something I might be interested in requesting. I keep saying 'no', yet I keep finding myself opening it again, hoping for a blurb that will wow me. That will make me grab the publicist by the collar and shake them all while yelling my undying need to review this book. So far, the entire 4 times I have read the blurb, I have gotten bored with it every time and barley made it to the second paragraph. Yawn. As for the direction of the cover, if I had to wager a guess, I would say that the main character is slowly loosing parts of herself. forgetting who she is. Why she is. Maybe she's not from the country? She certainly feels out of place.

Covers that Make Me Swoon
OOOH! Pretty

Lemony Snicket

I should have asked the question "How could someone who was missing be in two places at once?" Instead, I asked the wrong question -- four wrong questions, more or less. This is the account of the second.
In the fading town of Stain'd-by-the-Sea, young apprentice Lemony Snicket has a new case to solve when he and his chaperone are hired to find a missing girl. Is the girl a runaway? Or was she kidnapped? Was she seen last at the grocery store? Or could she have stopped at the diner? Is it really any of your business? These are All The Wrong Questions.

My Thoughts:
So this isn't my typical choice for swoon worthy covers, but I just couldn't stop staring. So purple and fun. It reminds me of an anime I saw once - Panties and Stockings - The adult version of Power Puff Girls. If this book had a soundtrack, Danny Elfman would be the composer. I am in love with the little tadpole at the top right.  I can't say I have ever read a Lemony Snicket book. Hell, I haven't even seen the movie, but I would totally pick this up and read the blurb.

Glorious Covers - Of Triton

Of Triton
Of Poseidon, #2
by Anna Banks
Publication Date: May 28th, 2013

In this sequel to OF POSEIDON, Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm below. Syrena law states that all Half- Breeds should be put to death. As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance among the Syrena turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never known?

My Thoughts:
The light blue hue of this cover gives an eerie, romantic feel, the couple kissing in the center does help though. I'm not a big fan of the 80's looking hair the water is causing. Her bangs are floating up into that teased monstrosity we used to call a hairdo. The white outfits of both the characters on the cover gives a since of purity. Lastly, the wave art on the O of Triton is very cool! It makes continues the romantic feel this cover is giving off. Oh I almost missed the bizarre thing going on with the woman's hips. Is that another hand? Her dress? Gives me the chills looking at it. I'm sure something is getting ready to drag her down.

The Elite
The Selection #2
by

Publication Date: April 23rd, 2013

The selection began with 35 girls. Now, with the group narrowed down to the Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon's love is fiercer than ever. The closer America gets to the crown, the more she struggles to figure out where her heart truly lies. Each moment she spends with Maxon is like a fairy tale, filled with breathless, glittering romance. But whenever she sees her first love, Aspen, standing guard, she's swept up in longing for the life they'd planned to share.

America is desperate for more time. But while she's torn between her two futures, the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America's chance to choose is about to slip away.

My Thoughts:
I fell in love with the first book in this series. There's something about a monotones color with a girl in a gorgeous dress that makes any YA heart flutter. Sadly, I heard book #1 didn't really live up to it's cover. That's a shame. This cover is really hard to decipher. I would gather that the main character has many tough choices to make in this novel, some of which could mean death if she takes a wrong turn. Obviously, the flouncy font and the blatant crown tells us it has something to do with royalty... duh!

**Note: I write my opinion on the cover before I read the blurb. That way I have an unbiased reaction and assumption.

Fragments
Partials, #2
by Dan Wells
Publication Date: February 26th, 2013 (Tomorrow!)

Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is. That the Partials themselves hold the cure for RM in their blood cannot be a coincidence--it must be part of a larger plan, a plan that involves Kira, a plan that could save both races. Her companions are Afa Demoux, an unhinged drifter and former employee of ParaGen, and Samm and Heron, the Partials who betrayed her and saved her life, the only ones who know her secret. But can she trust them?

Meanwhile, back on Long Island, what's left of humanity is gearing up for war with the Partials, and Marcus knows his only hope is to delay them until Kira returns. But Kira's journey will take her deep into the overgrown wasteland of postapocalyptic America, and Kira and Marcus both will discover that their greatest enemy may be one they didn't even know existed.

The second installment in the pulse-pounding Partials saga is the story of the eleventh hour of humanity's time on Earth, a journey deep into places unknown to discover the means--and even more important, a reason--for our survival.

My Thoughts:
Color me intrigued. Though I haven't read book #1, I might consider it based on this cover. The blue purple tones give off an ominous, creepy feel, like the characters have no idea what they are in for. The first cover isn't bad either. I love urban fantasy's and this looks like an amazing journey I want to take.

Spellcaster
Spellcaster #1
by Claudia Gray
Publication date: 3/5/2013

Despite the forces pulling them apart, Nadia and Mateo must work together to break the chains of his family’s terrible curse, and to prevent a disaster that threatens the lives of everyone around them. Shimmering with magic and mystery, New York Times bestselling author Claudia Gray’s new novel is sure to draw fans of the Hex Hall and Caster Chronicles series, and fans of the hit CW TV show The Secret Circle.

My Thoughts:
From afar, it isn't supper appealing. Not loud like the Selection series or as ominous as the Pledge series. Something about the soft fabric at the bottom corner drew me in closer. I love that the font looks like hand writing and goes all the way to the edge (bleed). In fact, the font is perfect! The little whisps of doodles also draw your eye to the flame in the girls hand. Obviously the focal point. I would gather from this that she has had a rough live. Maybe magic is the only thing that can calm her or make her feel the way she wants to feel. It has a mystical feel to it. The look on the girls face tells me that either she is having to concentration hard to conjurer the flame, or there is pain involved with the magic.

**Note: I write my opinion on the cover before I read the blurb. That way I have an unbiased reaction and assumption.

Pivot Point
Pivot Point #1
by Kasie West
Publication Date: February 12th, 2013 (Tomorrow!)

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.

My Thoughts:
I LOVE sparkly things... I am a girl after all. The girl on this cover reminds me of Kristen Bell, one of my favorite actresses. The cover does a good job of portraying the main character's abilities. I especially like how the title runs vertical instead of horizontal. Very cool, I hope I get to read this one.

Shadow on the Crown
by
Publication Date: February 7th, 2013

In 1002, fifteen-year-old Emma of Normandy crosses the Narrow Sea to wed the much older King Athelred of England, whom she meets for the first time at the church door. Thrust into an unfamiliar and treacherous court, with a husband who mistrusts her, stepsons who resent her and a bewitching rival who covets her crown, Emma must defend herself against her enemies and secure her status as queen by bearing a son. Determined to outmaneuver her adversaries, Emma forges alliances with influential men at court and wins the affection of the English people. But her growing love for a man who is not her husband and the imminent threat of a Viking invasion jeopardize both her crown and her life. Based on real events recorded in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, Shadow on the Crown introduces readers to a fascinating, overlooked period of history and an unforgettable heroine whose quest to find her place in the world will resonate with modern readers.

My Thoughts:
I don't post enough Historical Fiction novels. This cover jumped out at me. I really like it when you only get the back of the character, when you don't see the face. There's something mysterious about that. The gate the girl is walking into reminds me of teeth. Something ominous is about to gobble her up. Will she survive it's iron teeth?

**Note: I write my opinion on the cover before I read the blurb. That way I have an unbiased reaction and assumption.

By Cynthia Hand
Publication date: January 22, 2013 (Tomorrow!)

Since discovering the special role she plays among the other angel-bloods, Clara has been determined to protect Tucker Avery from the evil that follows her . . . even if it means breaking both their hearts. Leaving town seems like the best option, so she’s headed back to California - and so is Christian Prescott, the irresistible boy from the vision that started her on this journey in the first place.

As Clara makes her way in a world that is frighteningly new, she discovers that the fallen angel who attacked her is watching her every move. And he’s not the only one. . . . With the battle against the Black Wings looming, Clara knows she must finally fulfil her destiny. But it won’t come without sacrifices and betrayal.

In the riveting finale of the Unearthly series, Clara must decide her fate once and for all.

My Thoughts:
I'm not completely sure what draws my attention to this cover? I'm not really a pink kind-a girl. The girl on the cover looks sad, or concerned. The title font is phenomenal. I love the flouncy tails.

Nameless
A Tale of Beauty and Madness #1
by Lili St. Crow
Publication Date: April 4th, 2013

When Camille was six years old, she was discovered alone in the snow by Enrico Vultusino, godfather of the Seven—the powerful Families that rule magic-ridden New Haven. Papa Vultusino adopted the mute, scarred child, naming her after his dead wife and raising her in luxury on Haven Hill alongside his own son, Nico.

Now Cami is turning sixteen. She’s no longer mute, though she keeps her faded scars hidden under her school uniform, and though she opens up only to her two best friends, Ruby and Ellie, and to Nico, who has become more than a brother to her. But even though Cami is a pampered Vultusino heiress, she knows that she is not really Family. Unlike them, she is a mortal with a past that lies buried in trauma. And it’s not until she meets the mysterious Tor, who reveals scars of his own, that Cami begins to uncover the secrets of her birth…to find out where she comes from and why her past is threatening her now.

New York Times bestselling author Lili St. Crow thrilled legions of fans with her dark paranormal series Strange Angels. Now she has crafted an evocative update of Snow White, set in a vividly imagined world and populated by unforgettable new characters.

My Thoughts:
Right away I see Snow White.  Raggedy cloths, red apple, dark raven hair. That's all I see. I can't get past it. Don't get me wrong, I am in love with this cover, but it doesn't really look like a Snow White story. I almost think there is a wisp of a wing at her back, could just be the clothing though. The girl looks sad and alone. Stranded.

The Sweetest Dark
by Shana Abe
Publication Date: April 2nd, 2013

Lora Jones has always known that she’s different. On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. Yet Lora’s been keeping a heartful of secrets: She hears songs that no one else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she’s far more than what she seems.

England, 1915. Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention. Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England’s southern coast. Iverson’s eerie, gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen. And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.

Jesse is the school’s groundskeeper—a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is. Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own. Both hold the answers to her past. One is the key to her future. And both will aim to win her heart. As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she’s only just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves.

Filled with lush atmosphere, thrilling romance, and ancient magic, The Sweetest Dark brilliantly captures a rich historical era while unfolding an enchanting love story that defies time.

My Thoughts:
Might be a little too girly for my liking. I'm getting that overly girly feel from this, something my cousin's might like. Just from the cover, I would guess the girl died or is dead or an angel of some sort (clouds representing heaven). Fallen angel, since she is lying on a rock next to a dark river. After reading the blurb, I am totally confused. I don't get historical romance from this, romance - yes. The woman on the cover doesn't look like she ever had a rough day in her life.

The clouds are pretty though...

Premeditated
by Josin Mcquein
Publication date: October 1st, 2013

A week ago, Dinah’s cousin Claire cut her wrists.

Five days ago, Dinah found Claire’s diary and discovered why.

Three days ago, Dinah stopped crying and came up with a plan.

Two days ago, she ditched her piercings and bleached the black dye from her hair.

Yesterday, knee socks and uniform plaid became a predator’s camouflage.

Today, she’ll find the boy who broke Claire.

By tomorrow, he’ll wish he were dead.

The description of this novel leaves a lot to be desired, but this is not about the blurb, this is all about the cover, and WOW! This cover is amazing. The crystal blue eye leaps off the cover and  pulls me in like a tractor beam. Sharp edges cut at my curiosity. The deep red (like carved flesh) title hints at the plot. Amazing, I would totally pick this up and read the blurb if I saw it in a bookstore... weather or not I would purchase it has everything to do with the blurb.
