She was ready to be blind with no memory of the boy she loves. Instead, she wakes up in a strange room, still able to see and with Niko in a deep sleep. She agrees to work with Balthazar on the condition: Death needs to wake Niko. But Arianne soon finds out that helping the bad guy means having to do lots of bad things.

My thoughts:
On to my thoughts about the book. I'm not sure I understand all of the characters. Is Death the same person as Niko, or are they two different characters? It seems like there are two parallel storylines here with different character names? I also wonder at the naivete of Arianne. I would automatically understand that if I were working for Death, I would probably be doing some underhanded things. The cover (with it's black and white) gives off a feel of good working with evil. A grey background could represent all of the grey areas the characters may be working in to do what they feel is right. After all, nothing is black & white.

“Protect that girl, Balthazar. She is an innocent in all of this.”
“Why does she want Nikolas to gain his humanity?”
“She believes they are in love.”
The absurdity of D’s words hit Balthazar square in the gut. He would have doubled over if he didn’t find the reason pathetic. Thankfully, he managed to keep the laughter in his head.
“Love? Nikolas?”
