Stacking my imaginary shelf - and book challenge!

Okay, I'm trying something different. I don't want to copy what other bloggers are doing. I've never found it interesting what other bloggers get in the mail. It just makes me jealous. "Why can't I get swag in the mail like that?" I'd rather talk about your wish-list.

I want to know what books are you adding to your wish list?

My Wish List:
After the 100-followers giveaway, several people said they LOVED the Vampire Academy books and would recommend them to any one. Color me intrigued. Is this book really that good? I've been a little weary about vampire books since Twi-freak-out-light.

I used to love vampire books. I read Dracula and loved it, anything Anne Rice. I even took a Slavistics class in college (Humanities credit), that was all about the history of folkloric vampires. Very cool! Stupid Twilight ruined vampires for me. Everyone thought they could write a book after that, and they pumped out crappy vampire books in the image of Twilight. Gag.

So long story short, you've been yelling this book at me, I listened. The book on my Wish-List today...........................v.........................................

Vampire Academy
Richelle Mead
Razorbill

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

B&N | Amazon | Murder By The Book (H-Town Local)

By the way, I probably wouldn't have picked this book up because of it's cover. There's something about this that seems over worked. Like someone took an underexposed photo and placed it on their cover then added artistic filters to cover up the mistake. I see what she's doing when you get the collection in front of me... but maybe she should have started with a cover that looked more like the green or maroon one. Something that makes this look intentional.

My challenge to you:
Purchase at least 5 books from your wish-list. Maybe even purchase one book from a local book store. Not only will you be buying something you wanted, but also helping support a dying art, printed word.

  1. OMG! I was the same way, I was against VA because of "Twilight" but I read the first book and was at my library the next day checking out the rest of the series. It's so good!

I tried reading "Twilight" and couldn't get past page 50.

    1. I got through the series. Though it's poorly written, there's still something that tugs you through the series, or at least me. I'm not sure I'm in good standing with my Library though? {{Oops}}

  2. You will love the VA series, I was so surprised. It has a much high 'IQ' than the high school love fest of twilight. I did love twilight, however I read them several years before the movies.
Ohh and your challenge, I must have been reading your mind, I found 3 of my wish list books in paperback at a moving sale and squealed and scared the poor old lady there!! I only paid $1.25 for 5 books. The other 2 were older horror stories I have heard good reviews on the re-release on e-books!
Good luck with the books 8) michelle hofacker
