Fallen Short

There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce – he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret...even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, FALLEN is a page-turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

UUGH! Yet another heroin who can hardly pick up her own books off the floor. Give me a chick who can kick the crap out of anyone any time. This novel has FALLEN short.

Woohoo!:
Man the cover of this book is stunning! I found myself staring at it more than opening the book to read it. It reminds me of C.C. Hunter's Shadow Falls series. I love how it fades to black at the bottom. How you can't see the woman's face. How her hair seems to be floating off her shoulders. You can defiantly see the pain the character is feeling. As I've said before, I'm a sucker for a gorgeous dress. I can totally see this character in a funeral procession in Louisiana. A white lace parasol partly shading her porcelain skin from the blistering sun.

The school scene was pretty cool too. I liked that this petete, innocent girl was dropped into a vat of delenquits. I keept waiting for the MC to catch a glimpse of Cam groaping a teacher, or someone setting the bathroom on fire. That was probably the most entertaining part about the whole book.

Meeh:
A bit slow for my taste. Maybe it's because the size of this book is a little intimidating. I try my hardest to read books in about 7 days and with this book, 7 days = 60 pages a day. That's a lot for a dyslexic to read, especially a dyslexic with a separate day job. When I got behind, it was like NanoWriMo all over again. The work just gets larger and larger until I have an anxiety attack and wind up eating my own hair.

What's the point of half of the scenes? There's one scene where Luce is in a classroom for a review session on religion. I understand that the author is trying to convey some information to the reader here about hints of info to come... but it was so slow and pointless that I nearly thumbed through the section. Yawn. Could have been handled a better way.

There were times I just wanted to stick my hands into the book and shake the MC. Just wrap my fingers around her scrawny neck and shake her. (Thanks Amanda for the wording!). I HATE heroines who need a man to tie her shoes. Uugh. Grow up, were in the 21'st century. Women are just as good as men. We can do just as much. So stop drooling all over yourself and do something about your feelings. Do something about the strange things happening around you. Do something. Anything.

Daniel just doesn't try hard enough. I suppose if he did, there wouldn't be a book. There was so much more he could have done to avoided Luce. Flicking her off and giving her the cold shoulder isn't going to deter her. Push her in the mud, shove her face in food... get creative. Daniel says near the end of the book that every time, he does everything he can to keep Luce from falling for him, and nothing he does works. It didn't look like he really tried to me.

Rating: C+

I'm a little surprised by the "+" in my rating. You'd think, I rated it, I should know where it will land. Well, I have a grading scale and it hit several marks pretty high, which boosted this book much higher than I thought it would.

  1. Well, you definitely don't make the book sound very good. It sounds like you hated the heroine. Still, I've read other reviews where people liked it, so I might still give it a shot (especially if I won a copy!).

    1. lol. I didn't HATE her. I just prefer a female lead who can take care of herself. That's just a personal preference, but it has very little affect on the final score. It's definitely worth the read.

  2. I think the first book was good but then it went downhill from there for me ! I Made myself read up to the third book but couldn't muster the courage of reading the fourth final book! And yes even I prefer heroines who don't cry 'Damsel' all the time !

  3. Yes! Another victim of "pretty covers, sucky story." I read the blurb for "Fallen" and thought that it had the potential to be a great concept/story, but it just fell short. It's really slow in the beginning and in the last 100 pages, she's like trying to shove the story down our throats. Not going to lie, I read the whole series, and "Rapture" was by far the best one in the series, well in my eyes at least.

  8. I actually read this book a while ago, but I don't remember what it was about. So I guess I didn't like it very much if I don't remember the plot. I didn't even finish reading the series..I think I might reread it sometime if I have time. As for your other giveaway I would say the Divergent Series, Shatter Me series, or The Iron Fey/The Blood of Eden Series(all are really good. Or simply a giftcard so the winner can choose any book they want, especially if it's not out yet.
