2012 Movies from books

The Hunger Games won't be the only movie based on a book out this year. There are several movies coming in 2012 which takes its inspiration from the written word.

October 26, 2012	Alex Cross Author: James Patterson Director: Rob Cohen This is book #12 in the series. It is a little strange that the director chose to start with book #12, but maybe there is a reason for it. I can't say I read too many James Patterson books, or see the movies based on his writing.

December 14, 201	The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey  Author: J.R.R. Tolkin Director: Peter Jackson My mom read a part of this book to me when I was younger. I must admit, it is the only book in the series I have ever read/listened to, but I absolutely loved the movies. I just never got around to reading the other books.
November 16, 2012	Twilight: Breaking Dawn part 2 Author: Stephanie Meyer Director: Bill Condon It's almost over. Groan or rejoice, as you wish. This is the second part of the last book, though I am confused why it was split into 2 parts instead of three, since the book is actually three separate books within itself. In 2013, yet another Meyer book will be portreyed on the big screen - The Host.

Hunger Game Fever

It looks like everyone has Hunger Game fever. Check out a few Hunger Game themed things floating around the internet.

shirtwoot.com, a web company that hosts weekly shirt design contests and sells the top three winners, as well as other designer shirts has a Hunger Games themed shirt for $10 today. I believe the inspiration was from "Hungry, Hungry Hippos"

Etsy, an online site where people can connect to small businesses and hand made products, has a few items for sale inspired by the book. This particular item was made by TheBirdTheBee on Etsy

Even FAO Schwarz has gotten into the game. Though, I don't believe the backpack had the mockingjay or the #12 on it in the book... It's still cool.










The one thing I haven't really found yet is one specific clothing company selling Hunger Game themed threads. I know they are out there. I just need to do a little more digging.

JK Rowling's Writing

JK Rowling’s getting back on the horse!

So a few years ago, after the debut of her final Harry Potter installment, I watched a British report on Rowling and her success. She talked about how she had to lock herself up in a hotel to finish the novel and how it was a lot of work…

She then  showed off her multi-million dollar kitchen and mammoth house. At the end of the report, the journalist asked her if she would be writing more in the future. To me, the answer she gave the reporter was a definite “no.”

Fine by me. How can she compete with something like Harry Potter? How can she overcome her global fan base to write something different? Would her fans appreciate the new writing? Would they read it? She could write a total flop, though because she is JK Rolwing, people will buy, and read it despite the reviews.

Well, she’s attempting it.

She’s ditched her old publishers to join up with Little, Brown, who’s published authors like Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook), and Tina Fey (Bossy Pants). Though the book has supposedly been written, the details – including the title – have been kept secret, secured by the Royal Guards (not really).

So here’s what we know:

1. She’s written a new book
2. It’s for Adults
3. Little, Brown is the publisher
4. It’s supposed to be released this year (2012)
